Stan Collymore warns Liverpool against sacking Jurgen Klopp as he fears Chelsea might push for the German tactician.
Liverpool have had a tough time in the ongoing season. Jurgen Klopp hasn’t been able to produce the results that are expected from his side. They are currently 10th in the Premier League and are all set to miss out on European football next season. However, Liverpool legend Stan Collymore doesn’t want Jurgen Klopp to be sacked amidst reports of him being under scrutiny.
The Merseyside club are 11 points behind 4th-placed team Newcastle United with a game in hand. Finishing inside the top four from here on will be a miracle. But Klopp can surely push for a Europa League spot. The next few results will be very crucial for the manager’s future at the club.
Klopp’s men recently suffered a 3-0 hammering at the hands of Wolves in the Premier League. After that humiliating night, there has been a lot of talk about a possible sacking of the manager. But, the board is set to back him to turn things around.
The Reds are set to go up against Real Madrid in the Champions League round of 16. This tie might end up deciding Jurgen Klopp’s future at the club. But, before they can shift their focus to the Champions League, Klopp has two important fixtures in the league, first up is the Merseyside derby against Everton who are struggling for survival. Next up will be high-flying Newcastle United who are in the top four.
These fixtures will decide what happens to their German manager who has been super successful in the past with the Reds. He has helped them reclaim the Premier League title as well as helped them win the Champions League. A string of few good results from here could help them turn around the season. While a few bad results could mean the end of the Jurgen Klopp era at Liverpool.
However, Stan Collymore believes that parting ways with the German manager will be a foolish decision.
“I still don’t think Jurgen Klopp should be facing the sack at Liverpool,” Collymore said in an exclusive interview with Caught Offside.
“I know they’re having an awful season but we need to look further back than just the past six months.”
The former Liverpool striker wants the fans, pundits, and the board to look at the impact he has had since his arrival. Admire what he has done for the club since he joined. Collymore believes that the German tactician had completely revolutionised them post his arrival.
“Remember where Liverpool were when he came in – they were a real mess! – They had a below-average squad, were barely competitive and couldn’t attract top players. Klopp single-handedly changed all of that and went on to win every trophy possible along the way, and he didn’t just turn them into a winning side, he completely revolutionised their style of play.”
He still believes there are not many as qualified as Jurgen Klopp and believes he could turn things around if given enough time. Collymore even added that if he is sacked the biggest clubs across Europe will come after him.
“The reality is, if FSG sack Klopp, there is no one else out there better equipped to do a better job, so anyone calling for him to go should be careful what they wish for because I’m certain that if he suddenly became available, you’d have Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, PSG and even Chelsea all lining up,” he concluded.
