Royal Antwerp goalkeeping sensation Senne Lammens is humbled by Manchester United’s interest in him.
Manchester United are one of the biggest clubs in the world and they are constantly on the lookout for players who can further bolster their squad. Senne Lammens is someone who has been linked with the Red Devils thanks to his consistent performances for Royal Antwerp in Belgium.
He recently talked about those links during an interview with Gazet van Antwerpen. The 22-year-old shot-stopper admitted that he was left flattered by the apparent interest from the Premier League giants.
He said via SportWitness: “The first time I heard it, I thought: wow, Immediately a world team that follows you. That is special. Of course I was also asked about it a lot and when I made a save in training,”
“Those top clubs have so many scouts and follow so many players. So it doesn’t have to mean anything yet. It will only become clear in the summer whether anything will come of it. But of course, it is only positive.
“Especially because it is about the best competition in the world and my profile – my stature and way of playing – is suitable for English football. You have to physically hold your own there and that suits me.
“I do follow the teams that follow you a bit. But it’s not like I’m watching full matches. Summaries are enough.”
Lammens’ sensational rise
Lammens came up the ranks at Club Brugge and he made his first team debut under Philippe Clement back in 2021 at the age of just 19. He only got a limited amount of opportunities at Brugge and eventually ended up joining Royal Antwerp in the summer of 2023 in search of a more prominent role.
The move has done wonders for him as he has established himself as their first choice and has been putting in consistent performances. He has featured in a total of 45 matches for them and has kept a total of seven clean sheets while conceding just 59 goals.
Five of those clean sheets have come in the ongoing season. His performances have certainly caught a lot of attention and Manchester United are one of the clubs that have taken note of his performances.
Lammens could be heading to Manchester
The Red Devils are believed to be watching him closely and could make a move for him depending on the future of Altay Bayindir. He is frustrated by the lack of minutes and could push for an exit. If the Turkish international leaves, they could go for a younger alternative in Lammens as the club wants to build a team for the long run.
While the 22-year-old is clearly delighted to be linked with United, he is not getting carried away and his focus is currently on doing his best for Antwerp. But, if an opportunity to join one of the biggest clubs in the world does come his way during the summer, he might not be able to turn it down.
