Pep Guardiola has expressed doubts about Barcelona’s ability to sign Manchester City star Bernardo Silva and Bayern Munich superstar Robert Lewandowski.
Speaking to the media at a golfing event (h/t SPORT), Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has issued a warning to Barcelona that they might be unable to sign his player Bernardo Silva this summer. At the same time, he also expressed doubts about the Catalans’ ability to sign Robert Lewandowski from Bayern Munich.
Barcelona are going through a difficult financial phase and currently have a negative salary margin, meaning they are not in a position to sign and register new players until there is some serious investment into the club. Despite the circumstances being as they are, the Blaugrana are sketching out ambitious plans for the summer window.
One of their key transfer targets for the upcoming season is Bayern Munich superstar Lewandowski. Barcelona are intent on signing the 33-year-old and making him the leader of their project under manager Xavi Hernandez. The player himself appears keen to make the jump to Camp Nou, but Bayern Munich are reluctant to let go of their star man.
Opining on the situation, Guardiola, who worked with Lewandowski at Bayern Munich, has claimed that the Poland international will have no trouble adapting to life at Barcelona. However, he expressed doubts over whether the German champions will let the veteran striker leave and if Barça can sign him in their current economic situation.

“We are talking about Lewandowski, his career speaks for itself, he adapts to any side,” said the former Barcelona coach. “I don’t know if Bayern will sell him and if Barcelona can bring him in,” Guardiola added.
Barcelona have also been heavily linked with a move for Manchester City midfielder Bernardo Silva, with the Catalans viewing the Portuguese international as a potential replacement for exit-linked Frenkie de Jong. However, Guardiola said that it will be very difficult for his former club to land the 27-year-old this summer. “That will be very hard,” the Catalan tactician said.
Commenting on their financial situation, Guardiola added: “I hope that it all goes well for them but with the situation they cannot do huge things. We all have to accept the situation that’s there. We have to go calmly, we all know that if the situation is good they can’t make big signings. Keeping a low profile will help them come back up quicker.”
