Paul Scholes predicts Liverpool, Manchester City to contest for the Premier League title

Manchester United legend Paul Scholes has made his prediction on the Premier League title race, claiming it is between Manchester City and Liverpool.

While appearing on Sky Sports’ Overlap forum, as quoted by Liverpool Echo, Paul Scholes has had his say on how the Premier League title will unfold. The Manchester United legend has ruled the Red Devils out of contention while claiming it will be decided between Liverpool and Manchester City come May.

The 2021/22 season is promising to offer one of the closest, most hotly contested title battles in recent memory. While the run-ins between Liverpool and Manchester City in recent years have been a sight to behold, the new campaign is giving us the prospect of not two but four different teams vying for the title.

Manchester City, as the defending champions, are expected to be right up there while Liverpool are the most exciting team in the Premier League at the moment. Meanwhile, Chelsea continue to go from strength to strength under the tutelage of Thomas Tuchel whereas Manchester United are hoping to be major contenders following a summer transfer window to remember.

Several legends and pundits alike have had their say as to which team will be triumphant in the Premier League come May. And now, Manchester United legend Paul Scholes has made his own prediction on the title battle as well, picking Liverpool and Chelsea as his favourites.

Speaking on Sky Sports’ Overlap forum (h/t Liverpool Echo), Scholes said, “I think it’s between Liverpool and Manchester City, I do think there is three great teams [including Chelsea].”

“I think Manchester United have not fallen away, but it’s very early. I just think City and Liverpool, watching that game [between the two sides] the quality was just so high, I just can’t see any other team getting close to them.”

Liverpool have indeed been branded as the “team to watch” by former West Ham United striker Frank McAvennie this season. As for Manchester United, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will hope to have something to say on Scholes’s prediction, and it remains to be seen who among United, Chelsea and Liverpool can manage to topple Manchester City from the summit of English football, if at all.
