Noni Madueke reveals he rejected Chelsea, Manchester United to join PSV

Noni Madueke reveals why he rejected Manchester United and Chelsea’s overtures before choosing PSV Eindhoven as his ideal destination.

Noni Madueke is one under the radar star progressing like no other English player outside of the country. The former Tottenham youth prospect went on to join PSV’s academy and gradually made his way up to the first team. Now, 19, the winger has become one of the most lethal attackers in the Eredivisie.

While several rumours were linking him with a return to English football in the summer, the teenager remained at PSV to continue developing and reaching his potential. There was interest from Tottenham in the previous window, although nothing materialised of it.

Madueke, a boyhood Manchester United fan, admires many of the Premier League’s top sides, although he firmly believes he is at a top club in PSV. He broke through the Dutch team’s senior squad last season, soaking in the experience of playing at the top level, including the Europa League.

He scored nine goals in all competitions last term while starting the new campaign brightly. The future seems bright for Madueke, who might garner further interest from clubs in the Premier League and abroad. Chelsea have been recently linked again with the winger.

During his talk with the BBC, Madueke claimed that several top clubs from the Premier League were interested in him before he signed for PSV. He also revealed the reasons behind his decision to join the Dutch giants instead of Manchester United or Chelsea.

Madueke said, “Chelsea, Manchester United, a lot of European clubs [made offers]. I came here one time, and as soon as I came, I wanted to sign straight away. I knew going from Tottenham to United is pretty much the same thing. The reason I wanted to go was to progress quicker into the first team. PSV is a top European club. It made so much sense at the time, and it makes sense now.”

When the summer window comes along next year, Madueke could again be one of the hottest names on the list of big clubs across England and Europe. He will be hoping to achieve some degree of success with PSV before making the jump to a bigger club.
