Newcastle United tipped to sign Gareth Bale

Brazilian legend Rivaldo has tipped Gareth Bale to join Newcastle United after leaving Real Madrid as a free agent in the summer.

Speaking to Betfair, as quoted by talkSPORT, Rivaldo has opined on Gareth Bale’s next destination. The Welsh forward will leave Real Madrid as a free agent in the summer transfer window, and the Brazilian legend reckons Bale could join Newcastle United.

Gareth Bale’s Real Madrid stint might be ending with a whimper, but there is no denying that he has made some important contributions to Los Blancos’ success in the past decade. The Welshman has four UEFA Champions League crowns, two La Liga titles, one Copa del Rey, three UEFA Super Cups and three Club World Cups.

The 32-year-old’s record for Real Madrid is not bad either, as he has 106 goals and 67 assists in 256 appearances. But the last few years have been frustrating for Bale, whose stature has steadily waned at the Santiago Bernabeu. With the player’s contract expiring in the summer transfer window, he is set to leave Real Madrid as a free agent.

Several clubs have been linked with Bale in the last few weeks, with a return to Southampton also mooted. But Rivaldo has opined that the Real Madrid star could move to Newcastle United on a Bosman move in the summer transfer window.

Speaking to Betfair (h/t talkSPORT), Rivaldo said, “It is now public knowledge that Gareth Bale will leave Real Madrid at the end of season when his contract finishes, after losing his place in the team during the last two seasons. Despite not being as regular as many would expect he leaves the club with a bunch of titles after actively contributing for many of them and I remember well his bicycle goal in the Champions League Final against Liverpool.”

“Now, it’s time to embrace a new challenge and there are plenty of rumours. I think he could even stay in Spain if a good offer arrives from a club with European ambitions, but the most likely scenario should be a return to England to a league he knows well, but that is also more demanding than any other.”

“I definitely wouldn’t rule out a move to Newcastle as I think there is a chance they might convince him to return to the highest level as one of the stars of the team next season, in what will presumably become a very interesting squad.”

Newcastle United have shown a keen interest in signing Bale, and his addition could help the Magpies cultivate a winning mentality in the first-team setup. But with some reports suggesting that Bale could retire after leaving Real Madrid, it remains unclear what the future holds for him.
