Chelsea defender Marc Cucurella has admitted that he would like to rejoin Barcelona if such an opportunity presented itself.
As quoted by 90min, Marc Cucurella has admitted that the chance to return to Barcelona in the future will be “nice”. The Chelsea defender is a graduate of the Catalan club’s famed La Masia academy but managed only one appearance for the Blaugrana.
Marc Cucurella started his youth career at Espanyol before joining Barcelona as a 14-year-old. The Spaniard passed through the Catalan outfit’s famous La Masia academy before turning professional a few years later. But he managed only one first-team appearance for Barcelona and instead flourished on loan away from Camp Nou.
The 24-year-old first rose to prominence during his stint with SD Eibar before seeing his stock soar at Getafe. And the Azulones signed Cucurella permanently in 2020 before he moved to England a year later by joining Brighton & Hove Albion. Then came the move to Chelsea this past summer following a brilliant campaign at the Amex Stadium.
Cucurella has reunited with former Brighton manager Graham Potter at Stamford Bridge. But he is yet to make his mark at the west London club, although he has made 18 appearances for Chelsea. And the Spanish defender has now revealed his desire to return to Barcelona in the future.
The Chelsea defender said, “I didn’t get the chance to really play for Barcelona and I’ve always been gutted about that. In the end, if I had the chance in future, I would value it, it would be very nice.”
This is not the first time that Cucurella has confessed to his wish to rejoin Barcelona in the future. The 24-year-old made similar comments last year when he was at Brighton & Hove Albion. And with Barcelona reportedly in the market for a left-back, the Chelsea defender might be hopeful of a return to Camp Nou.
Barcelona’s current priority is to secure the long-term future of Alejandro Balde. The Blaugrana will then set about scouring the market for a competitor for the Spanish international. And it will be interesting to see if Cucurella emerges as a candidate for Barcelona.
