Jonathan David insists he’s ready for a bigger challenge, thus boosting Manchester United’s chances of securing the LOSC Lille forward.
Jonathan David was one of the names linked to moving away from LOSC Lille in previous windows. Despite the French club’s recent financial struggles, they did not entertain potential approaches for the striker, given they had already made sizeable sales in the summer.
Whether a big offer can tempt them in January remains a question, as there’s sufficient interest from Chelsea and Manchester United. The Premier League giants are keen on adding to their forward line, and the Canadian striker fits their requirements.
Chelsea are chasing several high-profile names, including David and Victor Osimhen. The Canadian striker was said to be open towards making a switch in January. Clubs could tempt Lille with a sizeable offer, with a price tag of €60 million being mentioned in media reports.
Meanwhile, Manchester United are also looking at him. Erik ten Hag reportedly wants a new marksman either in January or after the season ends. The club remain embroiled in the Cristiano Ronaldo situation, as his future remains uncertain.
It appears that David is open to a move away, going by his comments on 90 Min via Sky Sports. The striker expressed his ambitions while suggesting he would readily play in the Premier League or La Liga.
David said, “I was always watching European football on TV. So, for me, that was always the goal. For me, it was, I only wanted to go to Europe.
“The next step is always growing, having more ambition, a bigger club. Every player wants to play for a massive club in their life. If I had the chance to do it, I’d go for it for sure.
“They are two different leagues. But I think I can adapt to both for sure. I think my experience here in France will help me a lot if I need to adapt to someplace else a lot faster. I think both leagues suit me.”
While the European domestic season stops in a few weeks for the FIFA World Cup in Qatar, David will have a great platform to showcase his talents. The striker is expected to feature heavily for Canada at the grand tournament, hoping to impress a few suitors watching.
