Manchester City 3-1 Manchester United: Mourinho’s men outclassed by reigning champions in derby [Tweets]

Manchester United were beaten 3-1 by neighbours and bitter rivals Manchester City in the 177th Manchester derby on Sunday.

Goals from David Silva, Sergio Aguero and Ilkay Gundogan fired reigning Premier League champions Manchester City to a comfortable 3-1 victory over arch rivals Manchester United at the Etihad Stadium.

Silva opened the scoring for Pep Guardiola’s side with a composed finish just twelve minutes into the game. Jose Mourinho’s men did rather well to keep the lead to just one goal heading into half-time, but just three minutes after the break, Aguero fired home from a tight angle to make it 2-0 for City.

Manchester United threatened a comeback when Anthony Martial dispatched a cool penalty in the 57th minute to halve the deficit, but the Cityzens held on, before substitute Gundogan put the game to bed four minutes from full-time.

The result sent City back to the top of the table, two points ahead of second-placed Liverpool, while United remain rooted to the eighth spot, twelve points below their bitter rivals just twelve matches into the season. And here’s how the Red Devils’ supporters reacted to their fourth defeat of the campaign;

The Manchester United defence was once again criticized by the supporters as Mourinho’s men now boast a goal difference of -1 in the Premier League. The absence of midfield mainstay Paul Pogba was also rued by the fans, as the Frenchman missed the game with an injury.
