Liverpool stretched their lead atop the Premier League table to 11 points, beating Brighton 2-1 at Anfield even as Alisson was sent off late in the game.
Two goals within a six-minute span meant that Liverpool had a healthy lead by the 24th minute. Virgil van Dijk found the back of the net on both occasions, with Trent Alexander-Arnold supplying the assist each time with a couple of beautiful pinpoint set-piece deliveries. The Reds were unable to add to their advantage thereafter, though.
And, a frantic finale ensued when Alisson was sent off in the 78th minute for deliberately handling the ball outside the box. Brighton scored from the resulting free-kick, outfoxing substitute keeper Adrian while he was still setting the wall up. Liverpool, though, held on to their slender lead to grab yet another win. And Alisson’s dismissal was invariably a major talking point, with fans seeing the funny side to it.

At least that red card means a confirmed clean sheet for Alisson.

To be fair I don’t have a clue what Alisson was thinking here. #LFC #LIVBHA pic.twitter.com/M2EOvEDgSh

One man ruled the hearts of the Liverpool fans, meanwhile, as Virgil van Dijk was the match-winner for the Reds against Brighton.

Van Dijk throughly deserves that Ballon d’Or. Hard to think of a player who has been more transformative and commanding as his. A phenomenal defender and the difference maker for #LFC time and time again.
