Laurent Blanc has recently been critical of Barcelona over their recent decisions, blasting them for losing the services of Lionel Messi and Neymar.

In an interview with Panenka Magazine, Laurent Blanc has had his say on Lionel Messi’s recent move to Paris Saint-Germain. The former Barcelona defender has criticised the Catalan club for making some “monumental mistakes”, which include losing the services of Messi and Neymar.

Barcelona are going through their move turbulent time in recent memory; so much so that saying that they are in a spot of bother would be quite an understatement. The debt is piling up at Camp Nou while their first-team is in such poor condition that they might be scrambling to secure a top four finish come May, something that would be unthinkable just a few months ago.

On top of that, the Catalan giants also lost Lionel Messi to Paris Saint-Germain in the summer. The relationship between Joan Laporta and Ronald Koeman appears to be quite uneasy as well, though the Barcelona president recently insisted that the two are on the same page. However, with results continuing to be poor, which is only piling the pressure on the outspoken Koeman.

Now, a former Barcelona defender has come out criticising the Blaugrana over their downfall in recent times. Laurent Blanc, in an interview with Panenka Magazine, has slammed Barcelona while speaking about Messi’s recent move to PSG.

The former Barcelona defender said, “Honestly, for French football it is incredible to have Messi, Neymar and Mbappe in the same championship. PSG is on another planet, yes, but for the French league it is good to see these players day after day.”

“If I look at it from the Barcelona side, I think they have made monumental mistakes. Monumental. Not just for Messi, but for the last four or five years. They have lost incredible players, which a club like Barcelona cannot afford. You cannot lose Neymar or Messi, because it is very difficult for you to replace them.”

Blanc’s comments do make sense as Barcelona backed themselves into a corner when it came to retaining the services of Messi after taking a number of poor financial decisions in recent years. Only time will tell whether Barcelona can come out of their current struggles to enjoy a memorable season in the weeks and months to come.
