Former Arsenal forward Kevin Campbell believes Martin Odegaard is better than Tottenham’s summer signing James Maddison.

In less than a week, Arsenal will square up against Tottenham Hotspur in the north London derby. But, before the two teams square up against each other, former Gunners striker Kevin Campbell has his say on their squad and even compares Martin Odegaard with James Maddison.

Campbell said that he wouldn’t take a single player from Tottenham into the Arsenal XI. The 53-year-old even talked about how he believes Martin Odegaard is much better than Spurs’ summer signing James Maddison who has been on fire this season.

Campbell said while speaking on the Highbury Squad YouTube channel: “I know a lot of Arsenal fans before he went to Spurs, Maddison was a name on people’s tongues. Is Maddison better than Odegaard? I wouldn’t take Maddison, I wouldn’t take that, no thank you. You can make cases for a couple of Spurs players, but I’ll take our Arsenal side all day long, thank you,”

Maddison was on the radar of Arsenal before he ended up joining their rivals Tottenham Hotspur in the recently concluded summer transfer window. Mikel Arteta’s team as well as their fans were keen on having him in their ranks. But, unfortunately, they couldn’t strike a deal with Leicester City.

The 26-year-old attacking midfielder has had a great start to life at Spurs. He has been involved in five Premier League games and has managed to contribute towards four goals, the England international has found the back of the net twice and has bagged two assists so far.

Heading into the north London derby, Maddison is going to be a very important player for Spurs. Despite his red-hot form, Kevin Campbell prefers Martin Odegaard over the 26-year-old. The 53-year-old believes the former Real Madrid player is better than the England international.

The 24-year-old has been the mainstay of the Arsenal team over the past few seasons. Last season he was one of the best players in the league with 23 goal contributions in 37 outings. The Gunners skipper led from the front as they challenged Manchester City for the Premier League title right until the end.

While Odegaard was doing wonders for Arsenal, Maddison struggled with Leicester City and ended up getting relegated from the English top flight. The 26-year-old has surely gone from strength to strength since joining  Spurs but the former Arsenal player Campbell still prefers Odegaard over him.

Meanwhile, Arsenal and Tottenham are both in sensational form this season. Both teams are unbeaten in the league with four wins and a draw in their five outings. They are set to square up against each other in less than a week and all eyes will be on Arsenal’s skipper and Spurs summer signing Maddison as they will try to help their respective team claim all three points in the north London derby.
