Joe Cole tells Chelsea to sign Toni Kroos and Luka Modric

Chelsea are having a disappointing season by their standards, and Joe Cole has told them to sign Toni Kroos and Luka Modric.

In an interview with talkSPORT, former Chelsea and Liverpool midfielder Joe Cole has urged the Blues to sign Real Madrid duo Toni Kroos and Luka Modric. Both players are in their twilight years. But their leadership qualities, experience and quality could prove to be invaluable additions to the Chelsea dressing room.

Chelsea have a squad packed with talented young players. Bringing in two exceptional leaders like Kroos and Modric could transform them. The two Real Madrid veterans could be the ideal mentors for the young talents at the club.

Cole told talkSPORT, “I’d be looking to bring in some experienced players who set the tone. I’m thinking is Luka Modric out of [contract]? Does he want to come and play in the Premier League for one more year? He’s still doing bits at Real Madrid. And how much has he helped [Eduardo] Camavinga, [Aurelien] Tchouameni, [Federico] Valverde?”

“He would’ve had such an influence on them as players. Toni Kroos is 34. Does he want to test himself at his age? Coming over here and helping out this young squad. They’re just names I’ve thrown off the top of my head, I don’t know their situation.”

Joe Cole believes Chelsea would benefit from signing Toni Kroos and Luka Modric

The former Liverpool midfielder will have seen Chelsea’s problems up close this season, and he believes that the two Real Madrid players could transform the Blues. Kroos and Modric have been exceptional players for Real Madrid over the years, helping the Spanish club with multiple major trophies throughout the years.

It will be interesting to see if they are keen on a move to Chelsea at this stage of their careers. Both players are in the twilight stages of their careers, and one might feel that Chelsea should look to aim for talented young players with high potential.

Investing in the two Real Madrid players could come across as a surprising decision. Chelsea are looking to build a project for the future and they need to invest in talented young players instead of veterans who are on their last legs.

In addition, signing the two players would mean that Chelsea will have to offer them lucrative contracts and that does not make sense, especially in case of players who are well into their thirties. It will be interesting to see how the situation develops, and whether Chelsea decide to bring in more experience in the summer.
