Denmark international midfielder Jesper Lindstrom joined Serie A champions Napoli earlier this summer by snubbing Liverpool.

Jesper Lindstrom was linked with a move to Liverpool this past summer. However, he has revealed in an interview with Tips Bladet that the uncertainty regarding playing time forced him to consider a move to Serie A club Napoli instead.

The Danish midfielder, who joined Napoli for €35 million, had an impressive 2022/23 campaign with Eintracht Frankfurt, and he managed to score nine goals across all competitions. The versatile midfielder picked up four assists along the way as well.

Lindstrom can play anywhere across the front three, and he can operate as a central attacking midfielder as well. The 23-year-old has all the attributes to develop into a top-class playmaker in the coming seasons. He could prove to be a superb investment for Napoli.

The midfielder has revealed that he has been a boyhood Liverpool fan, and the opportunity to play for the Premier League club would have been exciting for him. However, he was unlikely to get ample game time with the English side. So he decided to move to Italy despite the interest from Liverpool.

He said, “It was Liverpool and I am a Liverpool supporter, so it would’ve been a madly fascinating experience, but would it have been an intelligent move? If I don’t play, then I may as well sit in front of the TV and watch them play there while I am at a different club.”

“I am at an age now where I have to play football. This is why I think Napoli represent a good change. It is one of the best clubs in the world and they said I will have many opportunities to play.”

Napoli managed to win the Serie A title last season, and they will look to build on that and do well in the European competitions now. They could certainly use a quality goalscoring midfielder like Lindstrom, and they could help the 23-year-old develop further and fulfil his tremendous potential.

The Denmark international will be hoping to establish himself as a key player for Napoli in the coming months and make his mark in Italian football. If he manages to impress at Napoli in the coming months, there will be plenty of opportunities for him to join a top Premier League club in the near future.

Liverpool could have definitely used a quality creative midfielder like him, and the 23-year-old would have been an impressive acquisition. The Denmark international is still quite young and he is likely to improve with coaching and experience. There is no doubt that he has the potential to develop into one of the best playmakers in Serie A with the right guidance and coaching.
