Jamie Carragher claims Mohamed Salah is an all-time Liverpool great

Jamie Carragher believes Liverpool superstar Mohamed Salah deserves a spot in the pantheon of the club’s legends.

Speaking on beIN Sports (h/t Liverpool Echo), Jamie Carragher claimed that he believes Mohamed Salah is already a ranking member of the all-time great players to have donned the jersey for Liverpool.

The Egyptian international moved to Anfield in 2017 and has since displayed a streak of ruthlessness and consistency that have seen him rank among the best players in the world. The attacking lynchpin for Jurgen Klopp’s formidable outfit, the 29-year-old, has shown no signs of slowing down and continues to be as hungry for goals as ever.

Salah has made 232 appearances for the Reds, scoring an incredible 149 goals and assisting 56 more. His impact at Anfield extends far beyond just the goal contributions as he continues to headline an exceptional Liverpool team.

Having played a key role in Liverpool’s recent UEFA Champions League triumph and their first league title in 30 years, Salah’s legacy at the club is all but set in stone. Carragher, a Reds legend himself, believes the Egyptian numbers among some of the greatest names ever to don the famous jersey.

“He will rest alongside Dalglish, Gerrard, Rush, John Barnes, Souness – he will be up there with the absolute greats,” he said. Carragher added that Salah more or less owns the right-wing spot in an all-time Liverpool XI given his impact at the club. That is quite the statement, given some of the illustrious names who have donned the jersey in the past.

“He is in Liverpool’s all-time eleven on the right-wing, that’s his. And he is one of the top five or six players to ever play for Liverpool Football Club. He has won the biggest trophies; he was won the European Cup, he has won the league. His goalscoring record is out of this world. He has won the Golden Boot virtually every year since he has been in the country,” Carragher added.

“Since he joined the club, Liverpool have been to a Champions League final, won the Champions League, won the league and he’s been top scorer in the league. That shows the impact he’s had. He is one of the all-time greats in the Premier League, no doubt.”

Few who watch the game can argue with Carragher’s assessment regarding Salah. The 29-year old has shown no sign of slowing down and continues to lead Liverpool’s scoring charts this season. With Klopp’s side still fighting on all fronts, Salah could further etch his name into club and footballing folklore if he leads the Merseysiders to a trophy or two.

The Egyptian ace’s contract at Anfield runs out in 2023, and negotiations regarding an extension have failed to reach any favourable conclusions. Despite being at the club for a mere five years, Salah’s legacy will endure for years to come.

Given that he is still in his prime, Salah can yet write more chapters to his story. Liverpool should be doing all they can to ensure that the 29-year-old continues to enhance his standing at the club for years to come. Players like Salah do not come along often, and securing his future at the club should be a priority for the Reds.
