Inter Milan have publicly confirmed their interest in Tottenham Hotspur captain Cristian Romero.
Inter Milan sporting director Piero Ausilio acknowledged the Serie A club’s interest in the Argentina international. However, completing a transfer could be extremely difficult due to the financial demands of signing Tottenham’s captain.
Speaking to Sky in Italy, Inter sporting director Piero Ausilo said of Romero, “It’s definitely a deal we are trying to sign with the player and the club [Tottenham]. These things take some time but there’s definitely interest. Let’s see.”
Romero has established himself as one of Spurs’ most influential players since arriving from Atalanta. His aggressive defending, leadership qualities and consistent performances have made him a cornerstone of the North London club’s back line, and he was recently handed the captain’s armband.
His combination of aggressive defending and leadership aligns with Inter’s priority to strengthen their centre-back options ahead of Serie A and European competition. Spurs appear reluctant to consider offers for one of their most valuable assets. Romero remains under contract, and Tottenham are understood to view Romero as central to their long-term plans. Any transfer would likely require a substantial fee, which would be beyond Inter’s financial capacity.
While the Serie A champions have not ruled out exploring the possibility further, they are realistic about the challenges involved. Tottenham’s valuation, combined with Romero’s importance to the squad, means any negotiations would require considerable financial commitment.
