Imanol Alguacil rules out Martin Zubimendi summer exit

Martin Zubimendi has been linked with a summer move away from Real Sociedad, with Arsenal and Barcelona interested.

Clubs like Arsenal and Barcelona are keen on signing Martin Zubimendi. But Real Sociedad manager Imanol Alguacil has now ruled out a summer exit for the 25-year-old midfielder. It seems that the Spaniard will continue at the Real Sociedad for the next season as well. The development will come as a major blow for suitors like Arsenal and Barcelona.

“Martin Zubimendi wants to stay here and for sure he will stay with us at Real Sociedad next season. I have no doubts, he’s staying with us,” said Alguacil via 90min. “There are rumours about him from other teams as well because he is a great player and this year he is in the Champions League. There is a lot of talk about him and I understand that this is good for the club and for him.”

Arsenal and Barcelona need Zubimendi

The Gunners are in desperate need of a quality central midfielder, and Zubimendi would have been a superb acquisition. He would have added creativity, composure, control, and technical ability to their midfield. He could have been the ideal partner for Declan Rice.

Meanwhile, Barcelona are looking to bring in a quality central midfielder as well who can control the tempo of the game. They have been keeping tabs on the Spanish midfielder for a while and had earmarked him as the ideal long-term alternative to Sergio Busquets.

It remains to be seen whether Arsenal and Barcelona decide to test the Spanish club’s resolve with an offer regardless of the comments from the manager. Zubimendi has tremendous potential, and he could develop into a key player for both clubs. If Arsenal and Barcelona can convince the midfielder to move on, Real Sociedad will certainly be under pressure.

It remains to be seen how the situation develops. The 25-year-old Spanish midfielder has the quality to compete at the highest level, and clubs like Barcelona and Arsenal could provide him with the platform to compete for major trophies. It will not be a surprise if he is attracted to the idea of playing for them next season.
