Herbert Hainer comments on Bayern Munich links with Florian Wirtz

Bayern Munich president Herbert Hainer feels “sorry” for Florian Wirtz but has ruled out a move for the struggling 23-year-old Liverpool star during the winter transfer window.

Liverpool could face a major decision regarding Wirtz if he fails to rediscover his form and produce consistently strong performances. It has been more than a year since the club paid a significant fee to sign the German international from Bayer Leverkusen, but he has yet to resemble the player who helped the club win the Bundesliga title.

At times, Wirtz has looked out of place in Liverpool’s team and in the Premier League, particularly compared with his performances for Germany during international matches. As his form has failed to improve, rumours have begun to circulate about a possible move, including links with Bayern Munich.

There have been suggestions that Bayern could consider signing Wirtz next year if Liverpool open the door to a sale. The Merseyside outfit are reportedly anticipating offers for the German international ahead of January, although they are not currently planning to part ways with him.

Bayern Munich had also reportedly ruled out a January move, although a summer approach could still be possible. There have been further suggestions that the Liverpool playmaker might be open to returning to Germany, potentially with Bayern Munich, although Liverpool supporters will want to see their expensive signing rediscover his best form.

Herbert Hainer has his say on Florian Wirtz links

As speculation continues to circulate in the media, Bayern Munich president Herbert Hainer has offered his view on the rumours. Speaking to Bild, he said he felt “sorry” for the struggling Liverpool star and effectively ruled out a January move for the German playmaker.

Hainer said, “First of all, I think Florian Wirtz is an outstanding player, there’s absolutely no question about that,” he said.

“I almost feel a little sorry for him that he hasn’t yet reached the same form in England that he had at Leverkusen, because we also need him for the German national team.”

The president then explained why Bayern Munich will not attempt to sign Florian Wirtz.

He said, “We have such a top-class squad, we’re incredibly happy at the moment, and therefore it’s not an issue for us.”

Wirtz still has an important role to play for Liverpool, particularly at a time when the club are missing several key players. He may have struggled since leaving Leverkusen, but there should still be a significant opportunity for him to make his mark.

Liverpool will want their expensive signing to rediscover his best form, but the club must also remain mindful of how the transfer market develops. If another player becomes available in a future window and Liverpool receive a significant offer for Wirtz, they could consider parting ways with the German, especially if he continues to perform below expectations.

For now, Hainer has denied any interest, but Bayern Munich could remain one of the clubs most likely to pursue Wirtz if he becomes available in the future.
