Phil Foden has been outstanding for Manchester City this season, and he will be hoping to guide them to major trophies.

Liverpool icon Graeme Souness has claimed that 23-year-old Manchester City homegrown star Phil Foden is his player of the season ahead of Martin Odegaard.

Souness believes that Arsenal captain Odegaard will be in conversation for the Player of the Year award as well. But he has insisted that Foden has an edge on him because of his attitude and maturity this season.

Souness told the Daily Mail, “The votes are being cast for the footballer of the year and Arsenal’s captain Martin Odegaard will have to be in the mix. However, Manchester City’s Phil Foden gets my vote. He has been outstanding. He appears to have that attitude where he wants to learn something new every day in training and we are seeing a real superstar in the making.”

“His goal against Real Madrid in midweek summed him up. Calmness under pressure, he shifted the ball out of his feet and hit it so smoothly. He is a terrific striker of the ball. The standard of the quarter-finals were everything you would hope for.”

“A fabulous watch, a great advert for Champions League football and Manchester City and Arsenal have nothing to fear going into the second legs. The only problem is every one of those teams will be thinking the same. That’s the mentality of the best players.”

The 23-year-old has 22 goals and ten assists in all competitions, and he has been outstanding for Manchester City in the Premier League as well as the UEFA Champions League. Souness believes that Phil Foden has shown tremendous maturity and a willingness to learn this season. His attitude has been exemplary and his performances have been outstanding as well.

It will be interesting to see if he is adjudged as the Player of the Year eventually. There is no doubt that Foden has established himself as one of the best players in the Premier League and if he wins the award in the end, it will be richly deserved.

Manchester City are currently on top of the league table, and they will hope to go all the way. Players like Phil Foden will be integral to their quest for glory. The defending champions will want to win the UEFA Champions League as well, and it remains to be seen whether he can replicate his performance from the first leg of the quarter-finals against Real Madrid in the coming weeks.

Foden is likely to develop into a superstar

The 23-year-old is still quite young, and he will only get better with coaching and experience. He is already operating at a world class level and the England international is expected to develop into one of the superstars of the game in the near future. Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has already labelled Phil Foden as the best player in the Premier League this season, and it wouldn’t be surprising if ends up winning an individual award.

Meanwhile, Odegaard has been outstanding for Arsenal as well, and he will hope to captain his side to a league title. Arsenal are second in the league table with seven games remaining and they will win the title if they manage to win all of their matches in hand.
