Giuseppe Marotta has not closed the chapter on Andre Onana and hinted Inter Milan are open to re-signing the under-fire goalkeeper.

Manchester United fans were desperately crying out for a new goalkeeper with modern methods. They also had no qualms watching their long-serving star, David de Gea, leave amid some controversy. In comes Andre Onana in a £47 million deal, and the fanbase are overly delighted with what the former Inter Milan star can bring.

While there were promising moments in pre-season, and Onana has generally improved Manchester United’s game in possession, he still has much to do for a goalkeeper. The £47 million Manchester United star has received praise for improving Erik ten Hag’s ideas of playing out from the back. But so far, he has been error-prone in his stopping.

Erik ten Hag recently lent him support following some disastrous performances, including against Bayern Munich in the Champions League. Overall, Onana has faced lots of criticism for his performances since joining the club in a big move.

He was also at fault against Brentford, showcasing his weak goal-stopping skills. Some reports are already suggesting Manchester United are looking for a replacement in the market. Still, ten Hag may continue to keep faith in the Cameroonian for the time being, at least.

Now, Inter Milan CEO Giuseppe Marotta made some comments that appeared in Daily Mail that hinted the Serie A side would be open to re-signing him. The San Siro outfit’s chief refused to rule out a move for the Manchester United man if they can get the opportunity again.

Marotta said, “I can’t predict the future, but in football anything can happen. For sure, it was a great chapter for Onana and for us. It was also a successful deal to sign him for free and sell for that money.”

Surely, the Onana sale made Inter Milan a lot of money, considering they received £47 million for the player. The Cameroonian only spent a solitary season after making his move as a free agent in the summer of 2022.

Inter Milan have done similar deals before, with Romelu Lukaku the most recent example. The Serie A outfit sold the Belgian for £97 million to Chelsea, only to take him back on a loan deal last season. Both those players helped Inter Milan reach the Champions League final.
