Gianluigi Donnarumma has predicted a successful season for Manchester City, while highlighting how the team’s new arrivals will make them stronger.
Manchester City have not maintained the same standards over the past two seasons that they managed for much of Pep Guardiola’s tenure. It is also the first time in the Catalan manager’s career that he has gone two consecutive seasons without winning a league title, after Liverpool and Arsenal claimed the Premier League crown in the last two campaigns.
However, Guardiola’s departure and the arrival of Enzo Maresca have been among the major talking points at the Etihad Stadium this summer. The club also spent heavily during the summer transfer window, adding several high-quality players for significant fees.
Gianluigi Donnarumma predicts Mancehster City success
Goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma, who joined Manchester City in the summer of 2025, has now predicted a successful season. Speaking to Sky Sports, the goalkeeper highlighted the quality of the new arrivals and the mentality required to achieve success.
Donnarumma said, “We’ve changed a few players, and a few new ones have arrived. They’re all top players who are used to playing on the biggest stages, dealing with difficult situations and competing in the Premier League.
“It’s not easy at the beginning when you move to a new club, a new organisation and a new city. However, they’re adapting well, and we’re making them feel comfortable. The players who were already here are helping them a lot. I think we’re going to have a great season. The objective is to reach the end of the season competing for everything available. In addition to the Premier League, there’s the Champions League and the two domestic cups.”
Meanwhile, Maresca has made an excellent start to life in the Premier League after an early setback in the Community Shield defeat to Arsenal. Following Manchester City’s controversial victory over Manchester United in the derby, his team are level on points with leaders Arsenal. The two clubs are currently the only teams with perfect records.
Manchester City have also started their Champions League campaign strongly, defeating FC Porto away from home in their opening match. They will now face Norwich City in the third round of the EFL Cup on Thursday evening before preparing for a weekend fixture against Sunderland at the Etihad. Maresca will hope to win both matches and maintain Manchester City’s pace at the top of the table.
City still have several points to prove, particularly in the domestic cups and the Premier League title race. They will also be expected to perform strongly in the Champions League. Given the club’s considerable spending during the summer, Maresca must get the best from his squad and keep Manchester City in contention for every major honour available this season.
