Gary Lineker has urged Arsenal to pursue 22-year-old Ipswich Town striker Liam Delap to reinforce the offensive unit in the summer transfer window.
While speaking on the Rest is Football Podcast, as relayed by Give Me Sport, Gary Lineker told Arsenal to pursue Ipswich Town striker Liam Delap in the summer transfer window. The English attacker is also a target for Chelsea and Manchester United, so the North London club will face stiff competition for his signature if they pursue him.
Lineker said, “If I were them, I’d go for [Liam] Delap at Ipswich Town. Yeah, he is young and not entirely proven, but he’s scored quite a lot of goals in the Premier League this season for a team that’s obviously struggled having been promoted last season in Ipswich. I like his movement.”
Liam Delap has been among the best strikers in the Premier League since joining Ipswich Town from Manchester City last summer. The Englishman could not establish a foothold in the first-team squad at the Etihad. However, he has not looked back since moving to Portman Road, contributing to 12 goals in 25 Premier League appearances, finding the back of the net ten times and providing two assists.
Meanwhile, the 22-year-old striker’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs, including Chelsea and Manchester United. Chelsea will likely dip into the market for a striker in the summer transfer window, with Enzo Maresca eager to land an alternative to Nicolas Jackson and Marc Guiu.
Meanwhile, Manchester United’s interest in Liam Delap makes sense. With Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee struggling to be productive enough in the final third, the Red Devils need a prolific striker. So, the Ipswich Town centre-forward has emerged as a viable target for Manchester United.
However, Arsenal might be in the equation if they listen to Gary Lineker. While the 22-year-old Englishman has contributed to only 12 goals in 25 Premier League games, he has shown the potential to deliver the goods if he receives the desired services. So, he can be a top-notch addition to the Arsenal attack.
With Chelsea and Manchester United also in the equation, Arsenal will not have a straightforward chase for Delap’s signature. It will be interesting to see where the English striker plies his trade next season if he leaves Ipswich Town in the summer transfer window.
