Borussia Dortmund full-back Daniel Svensson opens up on his future amidst interest from Arsenal and Liverpool.
Daniel Svensson has played down reports linking him with Arsenal and Liverpool, insisting there was nothing concrete behind the summer transfer rumours and that he is happy to continue his development at Borussia Dortmund.
The Swedish left-back was reportedly attracting interest from both Premier League clubs during the summer, with some reports even claiming Liverpool had a concrete plan to sign him. Svensson, however, says he never came close to leaving Dortmund.
Svensson on a potential Premier League move
The 24-year-old has made 73 appearances and contributed to 14 goals since joining Borussia Dortmund in 2025. Speaking to SVT Sport, he admitted that he had seen the reports but had heard nothing directly from either club.
“I saw something about it. But nothing I’ve heard anything more about,” Svensson said when asked about the rumours.
Asked whether he had been close to making a move, the Dortmund defender was equally clear.
“No. Not at all. Quite honestly.”
Svensson acknowledged that transfer speculation can be flattering, but insisted that he does not attach too much importance to reports linking him with other clubs.
“Of course it can be fun to read. It was nothing concrete and I hadn’t heard anything more than what was in the newspaper. I feel good in Dortmund and look forward to continuing my journey there,” he added.
The comments suggest there was never a serious transfer battle involving Arsenal or Liverpool, despite both clubs having reasons to consider adding another left-back.
Arsenal and Liverpool do need a left-back
Arsenal have Riccardo Calafiori at left-back but could add depth to the position. Svensson’s ability to contribute in possession and provide an attacking threat could make him an attractive profile if the Gunners eventually decide to strengthen.
Liverpool’s situation is slightly different. Milos Kerkez has struggled to completely convince since arriving at Anfield and has yet to firmly establish himself as the long-term successor to Andy Robertson. That could encourage the Reds to consider alternative options, particularly if Kerkez’s form does not improve. Svensson’s Bundesliga experience and two-way contribution could interest Liverpool.
The comments suggest there was never a serious transfer battle involving Arsenal or Liverpool. Svensson has made clear his commitment to Dortmund, with no imminent departures on the horizon. With his contract running until the summer of 2029, the Bundesliga giants are in a very comfortable position and can demand a significant fee if any interested club comes calling.
