Dani Alves has opined on Lionel Messi’s situation at PSG, suggesting the Argentine international is not enjoying himself in Paris.

During an appearance on ESPN’s The Bicycle Diaries, Dani Alves had his say on Lionel Messi’s predicament at Paris Saint-Germain. The Barcelona legend suggested that Messi is not enjoying himself at PSG and that the Argentine forward looks lost in Paris.

Last summer’s transfer window brought about major shockwaves when Lionel Messi’s illustrious stint with Barcelona ended in a whimper. With the Blaugrana in a spot of bother amid a mountain of financial issues, the 34-year-old could not sign a new contract at Camp Nou.

After leaving Barcelona as a free agent, Messi completed a big move to Paris Saint-Germain. And according to pundits and PSG fans alike, the former Barcelona captain’s transfer to Parc des Princes was supposed to be a game-changer that would deliver the elusive UEFA Champions League title.

Fast forward to March 2022, and Messi and PSG are out of the Champions League after yet another implosion. This time around, Les Parisiens bowed out at the hands of Real Madrid after holding a 2-0 aggregate lead. Messi and several PSG players have since been at the receiving end of jeers from PSG fans, who are now demanding the veteran attacker’s ouster in the summer.

Messi’s record for PSG is underwhelming for his standards, as he has scored only seven goals in 26 appearances across all competitions. While the former Barcelona captain does have a Ligue 1-high 11 assists, his overall output has left a lot to be desired. Barcelona legend Dani Alves has had his say on Messi’s predicament at PSG.

During his appearance on The Bicycle Diaries, Alves said, “Messi is not enjoying himself as PSG. He’s lost. Leo always said to me, ‘Where could I be happier than here?’ For whatever reason, Leo is not here today, but I hope he can come back. I don’t know (if he could return), but if he does come back, I hope he comes back here with me.”

Since being at the receiving end of jeers from PSG fans, Messi has been linked with a fairytale return to Barcelona. Recent reports have also suggested that the 34-year-old is likely to honour his contract with PSG, staying put at Parc des Princes for another season.

But with Dani Alves already showing that a popular move back to Camp Nou is possible, it would not be surprising to see Messi return to Barcelona once his stint with PSG ends.
