Chelsea were linked with a move for Juventus striker Dusan Vlahovic during the summer transfer window, but it did not materialise.

Chelsea, wanted to sign a quality striker, and Serbian international Dusan Vlahovic was on their wishlist. However, the transfer did not happen, and Juventus sporting director Cristiano Giuntoli has now revealed why the move collapsed.

According to his comments via 90min, Chelsea refused to meet the demands of the Italian club and they decided not to pay the asking price for the 23-year-old striker. There were rumours that an exchange deal could happen involving Romelu Lukaku and that did not happen either. Lukaku ended up joining Jose Mourinho at Roma.

“There was an offer from Chelsea for Vlahovic. We didn’t want to sell Dusan, but given certain numbers we would have accepted,” he said before continuing, “Chelsea never reached that figure, and the [Lukaku] exchange never took place.”

Chelsea needed to sign a quality striker during the summer transfer window, and Vlahovic would have been a superb acquisition. The 23-year-old was regarded as one of the most promising young talents in European football during his time at Fiorentina.

He has not been at his best since joining Juventus, but his form this season is certainly encouraging. The Serbian striker has four goals in six league games, and he will look to build on his impressive start and re-capture his peak form.

Chelsea ended up signing Nicolas Jackson from Villarreal, but they need to add more quality and depth in the attack. Christopher Nkunku is currently sidelined with a long-term injury and the Blues need to bring in someone who will be a reliable source of goals for them.

They have been linked with Napoli striker Victor Osimhen as well. It will be interesting to see if they decide to make a move for the Nigerian international during the January transfer window. Chelsea have spent significant sums of money on new signings since the change of ownership, and they certainly have the financial resources to sign Oman as well.

As far as Vlahovic is concerned, the Serbian international will probably look to continue his impressive run of form with Juventus and establish himself as a key player for them in the coming months.
