Twitter was all praise for a ruthless Chelsea side who effected a demoralizing defeat on an Arsenal side, who looked toothless and lacked the fight to beat the league leaders.
The memories of a horrific September evening at the Emirates were wiped out as Chelsea thumped Arsenal 3-1 at the Bridge to add further fuel to their title pursuit, as though it needed any.
There however was a measure of ambiguity pertaining to the legitimacy of the first goal after Hector Bellerin was fouled in the process. Alonso seemed to ‘elbow’ the defender while heading the ball into the net and the decision to award the goal while ignoring the foul in the process invited the ire of the Arsenal fans.
Seen another angle on TV at half time and it’s a clear foul by Alonso. Thought it was ok at first glance…

If Xhaka did what Alonso did he would get a 12 game ban and 60 hours community service.

Can’t believe this coverage on Sky. Angle from behind goal shows Alonso clatter Bellerin with his elbow first. They say ‘good goal’?! WTF.

What’s especially irritating about Arsenal here is, if they do feel aggrieved by the Alonso goal, that should anger them into a response…
— Miguel Delaney (@MiguelDelaney) February 4, 2017
That Alonso elbow not only won Chelsea a goal but stole a sub from Arsenal. When you get the breaks, you get the *breaks*.
— Michael Caley (@MC_of_A) February 4, 2017
Arsenal twitter discussing if that was a could or not by Alonso.
Lol as if we’d have won if that goal wasn’t awarded. . .— Shubhanshu Chawla (@chawla7687) February 4, 2017
#cfc huge work rate. Kante, Matic #cfc swarm inhibiting #afc in possession. Pedro & Hazard tracking back etc. Alonso & Moses pistons

Arsenal were on the look-out for an equalizer when Eden Hazard produced easily the moment of the game, and arguably the year so far with solo run from the half-way line before slotting the ball past Petr Cech in goal. Twitter was left lauding the Belgian as Chelsea opened up a 12-point lead at the top with the goal.
Coquelin’s career just ended.

Hazard is the best player in the league. One of the outstanding dribblers in recent times.

Cesc Fabregas of all people capitalizing off a horrible Petr Cech pass to chip the ball into the Arsenal net.
An Ex-Chelsea man gifting the ball to an ex-Arsenal man to score and hand the West Londoners a crucial win as far as the title race is concerned. Ain’t football beautiful?
