Arsen Zakharyan revealed ongoing talks with Chelsea over a potential transfer as a January move beckons for the 19-year-old midfielder.

Arsen Zakharyan’s name got mentioned many times during the past months. The exciting Dinamo Moscow attacking midfielder remains linked with a move to Chelsea. The club considers a sizeable offer for his signature. The club and new owner Todd Boehly wanted a deal in the summer, but there were plenty of political roadblocks.

As the Russian-Ukrainian conflict continues, there are problems surrounding Russian players and clubs. They have yet to get an all-clear to move freely to other clubs. It’s also why a move to Chelsea never materialised for Zakharyan despite serious interest from the Blues.

Back in October, this is what Zakharyan said about the interest from the Blues. “My agents were informed about Chelsea’s interest.

“I immediately said, ‘Yes, I want to go and see what happens. I didn’t rule out a loan option. At least I would try myself. Maybe I could play right away.”

Zakharyan also tried to switch nationalities and applied for Armenian citizenship. While those efforts proved fruitless, the attacking midfielder has now opened up the move to Chelsea could be back on. The Russian international confirmed through his comments on Caughtoffside that talks were underway.

Zakharyan said, “I think it’s all right. Talks with Chelsea are underway. But I won’t reveal all the cards.”

The 19-year-old midfielder could be an interesting addition to this Chelsea project. Boehly is keen on adding young players to the club’s roster and developing them for future teams. The likes of Carney Chukwuemeka and Omari Hutchison arrived with a similar idea.

In Zakharyan’s case, the 19-year-old midfielder is still an established player compared to the duo. Hence, his promotion to the first team could be quick, and soon enough, he might become an important part of Graham Potter’s side.

Chelsea are also looking at other players in different positions and could be set for a big January window. If what Zakharyan says is true, then they could finalise a deal in the early period of the new year.
