Allan Saint-Maximin has urged Newcastle United to sign compatriot Marcus Thuram in January, with the attacker available on the cheap.

The January window is usually tricky, with good deals hard to get for clubs desperately needing players to improve their teams mid-season. This time, a few players could be acquired at bargain prices, with French attacker Marcus Thuram being one of them.

Thuram has enjoyed a fruitful season with Borussia Monchengladbach. The 13-goal star is available on a cut-price move in January, considering his current deal expires in the summer. The 25-year-old World Cup finalist is a key member of the Bundesliga side, who will rue their luck ahead of the winter window.

A host of Premier League teams are waiting to approach in January. They would much prefer to sign him next month over waiting until the summer when he becomes a free agent. Manchester United are also interested in the forward who can operate from wide and centrally.

However, with reported interest from Newcastle United in Thuram, he is keen on the challenge with the Magpies. There are plenty of reasons for players to get attracted by the project at St James Park, as the club sits in third place in the Premier League table.

They have a fantastic chance to finish in the top four when the campaign ends, but with the right transfers in January, one cannot rule out a possible title challenge. Thuram is a player of immense quality waiting in the wings to join a team where he can flourish.

Compatriot and Magpies star Allan Saint-Maximin has now urged Newcastle United to find a way to sign the 13-goal star in January. His comments appeared in Gazette, where the winger expressed his happiness at seeing Thuram represent France at the World Cup and insisted he would love to have him at St James Park.

Saint-Maximin said, “He is a great player, and I hope we have a chance to take him here.

“I was so happy for him [to play at the World Cup].”

Newcastle United are expected to remain busy during the January window as Eddie Howe eyes several key signings. Having seen their name linked with James Maddison, they could splash big money on acquiring one key attacking target. However, the manager is also looking for a versatile forward in Thuram’s capacity.

They could make do with a bargain signing like the 25-year-old French attacker in January. Newcastle United could steal the march over competitors by making a reasonable offer and taking the forward away from Monchengladbach at the earliest.
