Manchester United are set to step up their pursuit of Borussia Monchengladbach forward Marcus Thuram in January.

According to a report by Blid, Marcus Thuram has emerged as a priority target for Manchester United, who are readying a January offer for the forward. The 25-year-old is in the last year of his contract, and the German outfit are willing to sanction a cut-price deal for him.

Manchester United United have been in search of a proper replacement for Cristiano Ronaldo, who left the club on mutual consent. The Portuguese striker’s void needs to be filled, and Erik ten Hag feels Thuram has that it-factor in him.

The French international replaced Olivier Giroud in the 2022 FIFA World Cup final and was involved in the proceedings as he provided the assist to Kylian Mbappe for the second goal. And he has now emerged on Manchester United’s radar.

Marcus Rashford has been Manchester Unite’’s most reliable option in the final third. But the 25-year-old has also been wasteful in converting chances, leaving ten Hag on the edge. So Manchester United need to invest in an attacking reinforcement in January.

Rashford also loves to operate from the left flank. So Manchester United are lacking an abundance of energy in the front, and Thuram could fulfil that demand. A natural centre-forward, he can also be shifted to the flanks if needed. So ten Hag could mould the 2022 World Cup finalist according to his suitability.

Having already exceeded their budget in the summer, the Manchester United hierarchy will unlikely sanction a multi-million-pound deal as it stands. But Borussia Monchengladbach will be looking for a meagre sum in the region of £10 million, which the Red Devils can easily afford.

Thuram has netted ten goals and assisted three times in 15 Bundesliga matches this term and his form has attracted significant attention. And with the player refusing to extend his stay beyond the current season, his impending departure could be brought forward to January.

Thuram’s arrival will add a new dimension to Manchester United’s three-pronged attack. The World Cup finalist has great footwork in the attacking third and can bypass a number of players with his skill. But several other Premier League clubs, including Tottenham, are also in the equation. So Manchester United should act fast to get the deal done as soon as possible.
