Liverpool have assembled one of the strongest squads in European football, but every title-winning side requires constant evolution.
Even the best teams have weaknesses that need to be addressed before rivals catch up.
The Reds have obvious areas that could be strengthened this summer. Replacing creativity in the final third, adding a specialist defensive midfielder, and improving depth at right-back should be among the club’s priorities.
Yan Diomande
Liverpool’s biggest issue last season was the lack of consistent penetration from wide areas.
With Mohamed Salah no longer at the club, Liverpool have lost a player capable of stretching defences, beating opponents in one-on-one situations and producing goals or assists from almost nothing. While the squad still possesses plenty of technical quality, there is a shortage of genuine dribblers capable of creating numerical superiority in wide areas.
Yan Diomande could be the perfect solution.
The highly rated youngster enjoyed an impressive breakthrough campaign in Germany, showcasing outstanding acceleration, close control, and the confidence to repeatedly attack defenders. He established himself as one of the most exciting young wide forwards in Europe thanks to his ability to carry the ball over long distances, create chances in transition and produce decisive moments in the final third.
Diomande excels in isolation. Modern defensive systems are increasingly compact through the middle, making elite one-versus-one ability an invaluable weapon. The youngster possesses explosive pace, quick feet and unpredictable movement, allowing him to beat full-backs on either side before delivering dangerous crosses or cutting inside to shoot.
His pressing intensity would also make him a natural fit for Liverpool’s high-energy approach. He is comfortable defending from the front, recovers possession aggressively and has the athletic profile required to thrive in the Premier League.
Most importantly, Liverpool would not simply be signing another winger—they would be investing in one of world football’s most exciting attacking prospects, someone capable of becoming the club’s next elite wide forward for years to come.
Eduardo Camavinga
Liverpool have creativity throughout midfield, but they lack a genuine specialist defensive midfielder capable of controlling games without the ball.
That is why Eduardo Camavinga should be one of their priority targets.
Recent reports have suggested Real Madrid could be open to offers for the French international this summer as they continue to reshape their squad. After an inconsistent spell in Spain, a fresh challenge could be exactly what Camavinga needs to rediscover his best football.
Technically, he ticks virtually every box Liverpool requires.
Camavinga is exceptional at recovering possession, reading passing lanes and covering huge spaces defensively. His mobility allows him to protect the back four, while his composure under pressure enables him to progress possession cleanly from deep.
His arrival would also unlock Liverpool’s more attack-minded midfielders. Rather than asking multiple players to share defensive responsibilities, Camavinga could operate as the single holding midfielder, giving Liverpool’s creative players greater licence to attack without compromising the team’s defensive structure.
His versatility is another significant advantage. Although naturally a defensive midfielder, he is equally capable of playing as a No. 8 or even filling in at left-back when required.
At just 23 years of age, Liverpool would be signing a player with elite-level experience for both club and country while still possessing enormous room for development. However, Liverpool will face stiff competition for the Frenchman’s signature, with Arsenal and Manchester United also reportedly keen on signing him.
Andrei Ratiu
Depth at right-back could quietly become one of Liverpool’s biggest concerns heading into next season.
Jeremie Frimpong is an attacking full-back who has dealt with fitness issues in recent seasons, while Conor Bradley has also struggled with recurring injuries during the early stages of his career. Liverpool cannot afford to enter another demanding campaign without reliable cover in such an important position.
Andrei Ratiu would represent an intelligent solution.
The Romanian international has consistently impressed in La Liga with his athleticism, defensive discipline and attacking contribution from full-back. At 28, he combines experience with physical qualities that should translate well to the Premier League.
Ratiu is comfortable defending one-on-one, presses aggressively and possesses the stamina to constantly support attacks down the right flank. His crossing ability and willingness to overlap would complement Liverpool’s attacking system, while his defensive awareness would provide valuable balance when protecting leads.
Financially, the move also makes sense. He is expected to be available for a relatively reasonable fee compared to many other right-backs on the market, making him an attractive option for a club looking to strengthen multiple positions this summer.
Liverpool do not necessarily need another superstar in that role. They need reliability, consistency and competition.
Ratiu offers exactly that and could prove to be one of the smartest value-for-money additions available during the transfer window.
