Predicted Manchester United lineup against Ipswich Town: Mainoo, Sesko to return; Mount in contention

Kobbie Mainoo and Benjamin Sesko will return to the Manchester United starting lineup when they host Ipswich Town at Old Trafford on Sunday.

Manchester United will be eager to return to winning ways when they welcome Ipswich Town to Old Trafford on Sunday evening. Michael Carrick has received a positive update on the team news front ahead of his side’s latest fixture.

Mason Mount may be fit and available to take on Ipswich after stepping up his recovery from a knock. However, new arrival Carlos Baleba will be unavailable for a few more weeks due to an ankle ligament injury.

The Cameroonian midfielder accompanies Karl Darlow (unspecified), Tom Heaton (knock), Matthijs de Ligt (lower back), Manuel Ugarte (knee), Amad Diallo (ankle) in the treatment room. Meanwhile, during his pre-match press conference, Carrick provided fitness updates on Amad and Mount.

The Manchester United head coach said, “Amad won’t be involved this week. He’ll be out a little bit longer. Mason’s back round the group, he trained this week. That’s a real positive.”

During his press conference, Carrick elaborated on Mount and the injuries plaguing the squad early in the season. He added, Yeah, 100 per cent. Mase can have a big impact, no doubt. He’s a top player and he started pre-season and came through pre-season particularly well. He hasn’t missed an awful lot of time, so he’ll get up to speed pretty quickly.”

“I think with every player, we want to keep them on the pitch as much as we can. Certain players end up going through spells a little bit differently to others. We’ve got unbelievable staff and facilities here, and things we can draw upon to try to make it better for every player and keep them as fit for as long as we can, for sure.”

Senne Lammens is an automatic pick between the sticks, with Manchester United lining up in a 4-2-3-1 formation in front of him against Ipswich Town on Sunday. The backline will feature Diogo Dalot, Harry Maguire, Lisandro Martinez, and Luke Shaw, with Ayden Heaven making way for Martinez after an underwhelming performance against Hull City.

As for the midfield unit, Kobbie Mainoo should replace Andrey Santos as Youri Tielemans’s partner in the double pivot. Bruno Fernandes will reprise the no. 10 role, with Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha being the two wide attackers. Finally, Benjamin Sesko will lead the line for Manchester United, with Marcus Rashford being a backup option on the bench.

Predicted Manchester United XI: Lammens; Dalot, Maguire, Martinez, Shaw; Mainoo, Tielemans; Mbeumo, Bruno Fernandes, Cunha; Sesko
