Fulham are looking to bring in a quality replacement for Marco Silva, and they have been linked with multiple managers in recent weeks.
According to a report from The Athletic, Fulham are interested in making a move for 43-year-old Spanish manager, Alvaro Arbeloa. They have already held talks with the former Real Madrid manager.
The Spaniard has been managing Real Madrid over the last few months, but the Merengues have recently shown him the door. The Spanish giants averaged two points per game under his management in 28 matches. They reached the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League under Arbeloa, but eventually ended the 2025/26 season without a trophy.
It remains to be seen whether Fulham are intent on making a move for him despite holding talks for a deal. They need more experience, and a move for the 43-year-old Spanish manager might not be ideal. Silva has done a phenomenal job at the West London club, and he has established his team as a solid unit. They are a well-organised outfit, and they have been difficult to beat.
Arbeloa would not be a good fit for Fulham
Arbeloa could be a quality manager in the future, but he lacks the necessary experience to take over our midtable Premier League club. The 43-year-old manager prefers a 4-3-3 setup, and his teams like to play short passing combinations with a focus on overloading the central midfield.
Furthermore, he prefers attacking full-backs who push high up and provide width to the team. Fulham do not have the players to execute his style of football, and his adventurism is unlikely to succeed at the London club.
Arbeloa prefers a high-pressing team and likes to win the ball back immediately after losing it. At a club like Fulham, he will need to be more reserved in his approach and ensure that the team is organised and tactically well-drilled defensively to nullify stronger opposition.
Fulham should look at other options, and they have shown interest in Hugo Oliveira and Abel Ferreira if they want to do well next season. They should look to bring in someone with experience in managing Premier League clubs. It remains to be seen who they end up with.
