Tottenham on the cusp of appointing new sporting director after Dougie Freedman, Sebastian Kehl talks

Tottenham Hotspur are on the verge of appointing a new sporting director after talks with Dougie Freedman and Sebastian Kehl.

Tottenham have been in the market for a new sporting director for some time, and they are finally getting closer to making an appointment just in time for the summer transfer window. According to a report from Football Insider, the North London club are down to their final two candidates for the co-sporting director position.

Former Borussia Dortmund chief Sebastian Kehl and former Crystal Palace sporting director Dougie Freedman are the two candidates to take up the role. Spurs are now in advanced talks to get the deal over the line.

The North London club’s pursuit of a new co-sporting director began after the end of the winter transfer window, as Fabio Paratici decided to part ways with the club to join Fiorentina. Ever since, the Lilywhites have been in talks with a number of candidates to take up the position.

Spurs are closing in on appointing a new chief

Tottenham have finally managed to narrow it down to Sebastian Kehl and Dougie Freedman because of their impressive track records at their previous clubs. They are highly rated by multiple clubs from across Europe, and Spurs feel both are ideal candidates to help them get back to the top of English football.

Tottenham have already held talks with the duo, who will be expected to work closely alongside Johan Lange and could face a massive challenge this summer with Spurs fighting for survival in the top flight.

Since the North London club will look to reshuffle their backroom staff, former Everton CEO Keith Wyness believes Freedman could be an ideal fit for them. He did quite an impressive job at Selhurst Park and played a big part in signing some of their best young players (Eberechi Eze, Michael Olise and Adam Wharton).

Kehl also has an impressive track record at Dortmund and only left the German club last month by mutual consent. His availability had put Tottenham on alert. Since the duo are the only ones left on their shortlist, it will be interesting to see who ends up taking the co-sporting director role alongside Lange.
