Sebastien Kehl in talks to join Tottenham

Tottenham Hotspur are in talks to bring former Borussia Dortmund sporting director Sebastien Kehl to North London in the coming months.

Tottenham Hotspur are all set to make some key changes at the top of their management. While their priority is to ensure they survive the drop, the club are also working hard to bring in a new director of football, and they could also be in the market for a sporting director, depending on Johan Lange’s future.

Former Borussia Dortmund chief Sebastien Kehl could be heading to the North London club. According to BILD via Sport Witness, Spurs are in intensive talks with the 46-year-old regarding a move to England. They consider him an ideal fit for their project and are trying to convince him about the move.

After retiring at Borussia Dortmund in the summer of 2015, Sebastien Kehl returned to the Bundesliga club in the summer of 2018 as a part of their management. He started off as their head of the first team football, before eventually taking charge as their sporting director in the summer of 2022.

At just 46 years old, he has made quite a name for himself with his work behind the scenes. While Kehl’s tenure at Borussia Dortmund did not end in the best possible way, he received a lot of criticism because of the signings they have made in the recent past and their struggles across competitions.

Tottenham working hard to lure Sebastien Kehl

However, it has not bothered the clubs that are keen on signing him. Since Kehl was relieved of his duties last month, multiple clubs are trying to lure him. There is interest from clubs in Germany, but it seems Tottenham are determined to take him to North London.

With the director of football, Fabio Paratici, leaving Spurs to join Fiorentina at the start of the year, they have a big role to fill, and Johan Lange could also be shown the exit door, opening up the sporting director position. While it is not yet certain which role Tottenham want him to take, they are already in talks with him.

So, there is interest in quite concrete terms, and it will be interesting to see how things develop in the coming weeks. Tottenham are currently fighting for survival, and their future might have an impact on their pursuit of Kehl.
