Predicted Manchester United lineup against Newcastle United: Mazraoui to start; Maguire, Shaw doubtful

Noussair Mazraoui will return to the Manchester United starting lineup when they take on Newcastle United at St. James’ Park on Wednesday.

Manchester United will aim to continue the unbeaten start to life under Michael Carrick when they lock horns with Newcastle United at St. James’ Park on Wednesday night. Michael Carrick has new roster issues to worry about ahead of his side’s latest fixture.

The English tactician is sweating over the fitness of Luke Shaw and Harry Maguire, with the duo recovering from illness. Additionally, Lisandro Martinez has been struggling with a minor muscular injury. It is unclear if the trio will be fit and available to take on Newcastle United on Wednesday.

However, Matthijs de Ligt (lower back) and Patrick Dorgu (hamstring) remain in the treatment room, with the latter closing in on returning. Meanwhile, during his pre-match press conference, Carrick did not provide clear fitness updates on Maguire and Shaw.

The Manchester United head coach said, “Yeah, we’re hoping so [that Maguire and Shaw are available on Wednesday]. We’re working towards it. They weren’t feeling too good. We’ve still got a little bit of time to the game and we will just have to see how they feel. So we’ll obviously give them every chance.”

“No, it wasn’t injury, it’s just both of them weren’t feeling too good. So, yeah, it’s one of those things really. But we’ll just have to see how they are today and tomorrow morning.”

Meanwhile, during his presser, Carrick praised Bruno Fernandes for his consistency. The Manchester United boss said, “I’ll be honest, there’s not loads more I can add to what we’ve already talked about, about Bruno. He’s been here for such a long time-period of time now, and had success in different ways and, certainly individually, shown what he’s all about, in taking responsibility, showing up, being there, facing everything for the ups and the downs.”

“I think that sums up Bruno as a character and his consistency over such a period of time. In terms of where he ranks in club history, that’s not for me to get involved in and it’s irrelevant, but he’s been a major, major plus and a fantastic signing from when he came in and the impact that he’s had since he’s been here and I’m sure that’ll continue.”

Senne Lammens is an automatic pick between the sticks, with Manchester United lining up in a 4-2-3-1 formation in front of him against Newcastle United on Wednesday. The backline will feature Diogo Dalot, Leny Yoro, Harry Maguire, and Noussair Mazraoui. Shaw will start if he is fit and available.

As for the midfield unit, there is no looking past Casemiro and Kobbie Mainoo in the double pivot. Bruno Fernandes will reprise the no. 10 role, with Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha being the two wide attackers. Finally, Benjamin Sesko will lead the line for the away side against Newcastle United. So, Amad Diallo will be a backup option on the bench for the Red Devils.

Predicted Manchester United XI: Lammens; Dalot, Yoro, Maguire, Mazraoui; Casemiro, Mainoo; Mbeumo, Bruno Fernandes, Cunha; Sesko
