Sir Jim Ratcliffe fully backing Ruben Amorim, Manchester United face Chelsea, Manchester City battle for Andoni Iraola

Ruben Amorim reportedly has the full backing of Sir Jim Ratcliffe, while Andoni Iraola is still seen as a viable option if things unravel with the Portuguese manager.

According to a report by Graeme Bailey on TBR Football, Ruben Amorim is not in danger of being sacked by Manchester United for the time being despite the links with Andoni Iraola. The Portuguese tactician retains the full backing of Sir Jim Ratcliffe in this difficult period, although the Red Devils do have the in-demand Iraola on their list of candidates.

The Manchester United managerial discourse was at its peak a few weeks back, but things seem to have cooled down on that front. After the defeat to Grimsby Town, Ruben Amorim came under severe pressure, with many calling for his position to be reviewed, amid links with other candidates.

At the time, Andoni Iraola was among those linked, and the Bournemouth boss remains high on INEOS’ list of candidates should they eventually part ways with Amorim at some stage. However, Manchester United are not the only party in town for the Bournemouth boss, as TEAMtalk states Chelsea and Manchester City are keeping close tabs on his situation.

Chelsea are pondering about Iraola should they part ways with Enzo Maresca amid some ongoing rumours about discontent behind the scenes at Cobham. Similarly, Manchester City are looking at several potential candidates to eventually succeed Pep Guardiola, with some sections suggesting the Catalan tactician could leave the Etihad project in the coming years.

However, Manchester United are also chasing Iraola, although that may only be possible if they ask Amorim to pack his bags. For now, the Portuguese boss is not in danger of losing his role, with some reports stating the financial implications of sacking him now for the club.

Ruben Amorim has Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s backing

As things stand, Sir Jim Ratcliffe is reportedly backing Amorim, and he does not want to put any undue pressure on the manager over his role. The news will come as a big boost for the Portuguese boss in his efforts to steady the Manchester United project.

The backing is evident, but that may not be unconditional, given that this sport is still a results-based arena. Hence, should Amorim not bring in favourable improvements to this squad, and if results continue to evade Manchester United, Sir Jim Ratcliffe might decide on Amorim’s future, and potentially open talks with the likes of Iraola about taking over at Old Trafford.
