Predicted Liverpool lineup against Everton: Slot to ring in changes; Alexander-Arnold a doubt

Liverpool manager Arne Slot will ring in the changes and take a late call on Trent Alexander-Arnold’s involvement against Everton at Goodison Park on Wednesday.

Liverpool will be eager to return to winning ways when they lock horns with Everton in the final Merseyside Derby at Goodison Park on Wednesday night. Arne Slot has a new injury concern that is hampering his preparations ahead of his side’s latest fixture.

Joe Gomez is the latest absentee after picking up another hamstring injury in the early phases of the FA Cup clash with Plymouth Argyle this past weekend. The English centre-back has joined Tyler Morton (shoulder) on the sidelines.

However, Trent Alexander-Arnold might return after resuming light training ahead of the Merseyside Derby. It is unclear if Slot will take a risk with the English international from the get-go. During his pre-match press conference, the Dutch tactician provided a fitness update on Alexander-Arnold and Gomez.

The Liverpool manager said, “Trent has done parts of training sessions with us. Not ‘sessions’, a session, yesterday. So, let’s see how he is today. He will train, hopefully, with us again and then we have to decide if we take him to the game, yes or no.

Providing a fitness update on Joe Gomez, Slot said, “Joe, it’s the same leg where he had the injury last time. We are still assessing that, but he will definitely not be available tomorrow.”

Alisson Becker will replace Caoimhin Kelleher between the sticks, with Liverpool lining up in a 4-2-3-1 formation in front of him against Everton on Wednesday. The backline should feature Conor Bradley, Ibrahima Konate, Virgil van Dijk, and Andrew Robertson. However, Trent Alexander-Arnold will start instead of Bradley if he proves his fitness ahead of the game.

As for the midfield unit, there is no looking past Ryan Gravenberch and Alexis Mac Allister in the double pivot. Dominik Szoboszlai will reprise the no. 10 role, with Cody Gakpo and Mohamed Salah being the two wide attackers. Finally, Luis Diaz should lead the line for the away side against Everton, with Darwin Nunez a backup option on the bench.

Predicted Liverpool XI: Alisson; Bradley, Konate, van Dijk, Robertson; Gravenberch, Mac Allister; Salah, Szoboszlai, Gakpo; Diaz
