Premier League heavyweights Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly mulling over replacing Ange Postecoglou with 48-year-old Inter Milan manager Simone Inzaghi.
According to a report by Italian outlet Inter Live, Simone Inzaghi is the subject of interest from Tottenham Hotspur. The North London giants are scouring the market for a new manager amid uncertainties surrounding the long-term future of Ange Postecoglou. So, the Inter Milan boss has emerged as a target for the Premier League club.
The Simone Inzaghi story
Simone Inzaghi has seen his stock skyrocket since joining Inter Milan from SS Lazio ahead of the 2021/22 season. A native of Placenza, he is the younger brother of legendary Italian striker Filippo Inzaghi. However, he did not enjoy as illustrious a career as a footballer apart from a few honours with Lazio.
The 48-year-old called time on his professional career in 2010 and entered the managerial sphere after some time. Inzaghi’s first foray into the senior coaching world came with Lazio, managing the Biancocelesti from 2016 to 2021. However, he has risen in prominence during his spell with Inter Milan.
The Italian tactician has enjoyed a solid stint thus far with Inter Milan, winning six trophies in three seasons, including the Serie A title last term. Meanwhile, Inzaghi’s exploits have not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs across Europe, including Manchester United. He is currently a target for Tottenham Hotspur.
London calling?
Tottenham Hotspur’s interest in Simone Inzaghi is understandable. Ange Postecoglou is in a spot of bother at the North London club amid a topsy-turvy 2024/25 campaign. The latest setback for Tottenham was a 6-3 defeat to Liverpool at home in the Premier League, and they might face an uphill task to secure UEFA Champions League qualification.
So, several candidates, including Marco Silva, have emerged on Tottenham’s radar to replace Postecoglou in the long run. However, Inzaghi is also a viable target, considering his trophy-winning pedigree and tactical acumen.
The report has suggested that Tottenham might offer a three-year contract worth €9 million per season to tempt Inzaghi to end his spell with Inter Milan and move to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. So, it will be interesting to see if the North London outfit can turn the 48-year-old Italian manager’s head if they part ways with Postecoglou.
