Chelsea finalise four-man shortlist to identify next manager

Chelsea have reportedly prepared a shortlist of four managers as they look to appoint a new boss in the coming days.

According to Kaveh Solhekol, Chelsea are pushing hard to appoint their next manager after deciding to part ways with Mauricio Pochettino. With the Argentine leaving, they have drawn a final four-man shortlist for the job at Stamford Bridge.

Kieran McKenna, Thomas Frank, Enzo Maresca, and Roberto De Zerbi who have all done a great job managing English clubs are on that shortlist of the Blues. They want someone who has proven himself in England and could easily align with the club’s ideas.

Chelsea have spent a fortune on player transfers. But things on the pitch have not been that great under the new ownership. They brought in Mauricio Pochettino to help revive the club. The former Tottenham boss did not have the best of starts to life at Stamford Bridge. While he did end the season on a high, the Blues ended up parting ways with him.

He was not really on the same page with the club in terms of their transfer strategy along with a few other things. As a result, both parties decided to go their separate ways. Even before they made the decision to end Pochettino’s stay at the club, Chelsea were already on the lookout for a new manager. With his departure confirmed, the search for an ideal replacement has intensified.

Chelsea’s four-man shortlist to replace Pochettino

Chelsea co-sporting directors Paul Winstanley and Laurence Stewart have been working on drawing a shortlist of the best possible candidates for the role. According to Solhekol, Kieran McKenna, Thomas Frank, Enzo Maresca and Roberto De Zerbi are the top four candidates to take over as the London club’s new boss.

They are looking to appoint someone who is dynamic with his approach, is forward-thinking and thinks along the lines of the club. More importantly, they want someone with a proven record in England and all four of their shortlisted managers surely have everything they are looking for.

De Zerbi has done an impressive job with Brighton in the English top flight. McKenna has helped Ipswich earn back-to-back promotions, and they are all set to feature in the Premier League next season.

Meanwhile, Frank has attracted admirers on the back of his work at Brentford, while Enzo Maresca’s style of play at Leicester City suggests he could be a great fit for Chelsea. Xavi who has been sacked by Barcelona is also linked with the club but he is not a part of their shortlist.

While they are working further to narrow down the list, the final decision is in the hands of the ownership group which includes co-owners Behdad Eghbali and Todd Boehly.
