Enzo Maresca open to talks to join Chelsea

Enzo Maresca is reportedly open to having a conversation with Chelsea, with the West London club eager to initiate talks with the 44-year-old.

According to a report by Graeme Bailey on HITC, Enzo Maresca is the subject of interest from Chelsea. The Blues are keen on initiating discussions with the 44-year-old over replacing Mauricio Pochettino ahead of the 2024/25 season. And the Leicester City manager has boosted Chelsea’s prospects as he is open to having a conversation with the West London club.

Enzo Maresca has seen his stock skyrocket since joining Leicester City ahead of the 2023/24 season. The Italian tactician was a relative novice in the managerial world, having only taken charge of Parma on the first-team level before moving to the King Power Stadium. However, he learned a lot during his spell with Manchester City.

The 44-year-old was one of the assistants to Pep Guardiola at Manchester City before joining Leicester City. Maresca put his learnings to good use at the Midlands club, guiding them to automatic promotion after dominating the EFL Championship for most of the 2023/24 season.

Maresca’s exploits at Leicester City have not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs across Europe. However, a move to Chelsea might be on the cards, although Leicester City will be eager to embark on a Premier League campaign under Pep Guardiola’s former assistant.

Chelsea’s interest in Enzo Maresca is understandable. The Blues have parted ways with Mauricio Pochettino due to differences over transfer strategy in the market. So, they are scouring the market for a new manager, with several candidates, including Kieran McKenna, emerging on their radar.

However, recent reports have claimed that Maresca has become the front-runner to replace Pochettino at Chelsea. The Blues are eager to initiate discussions with the former Manchester City assistant manager. And the 44-year-old has boosted Chelsea’s prospects as he is open to talks over taking over at Stamford Bridge.

With Maresca open to having a conversation with Chelsea, the ball is in the West London club’s court to seal the deal in the coming weeks. It will be interesting to see if the 44-year-old Italian tactician beats the competition to become the new Chelsea manager.
