Ipswich Town have made their stance clear about the future of Kieran McKenna amidst interest from Manchester United and Chelsea.
According to a report from TEAMtalk, Manchester United and Chelsea are both keen on having Kieran McKenna on their bench ahead of next season. While they are pushing hard for his signature, Ipswich Town are doing everything in their power to keep hold of their manager.
McKenna was the assistant manager at Manchester United before he left towards the end of 2021 to embark on a new journey with Ipswich Town as their new boss. He has done wonders at the club, helping them gain back-to-back promotions.
The Tractor Boys have finished second in the Championship this term behind Leicester City and are all set to feature in the English top flight for the first time in 22 years. While the preparations for next season are already underway, and they are making plans for potential transfers, the future of McKenna has become uncertain amid interest from top clubs in the country.
Chelsea and Manchester United interested in McKenna
Chelsea and Manchester United are two top clubs that are interested in the 38-year-old’s services. The Red Devils are considering parting ways with Erik ten Hag in the summer. While the Dutch manager had an impressive debut season at the club, things have fallen apart in his second season.
Their new part-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe and his team are yet to make a decision on the future of Ten Hag. But they have started to look for a potential replacement, and bringing McKenna back to Manchester United is one of their options.
Chelsea appointed Mauricio Pochettino as their new boss last summer with hopes of reviving themselves. But, things have not gone according to plan. The Blues struggled in the first half of the season and despite the late flurry, they have only managed to secure a sixth-placed finish.
The disappointing season has resulted in a lot of speculation about Pochettino’s future at the club, and Chelsea have been linked with McKenna as a potential replacement. But, it seems the Blues could still end up backing the Argentine manager for next season because of their performances in the final phase of the season.
With the Northern Irishman being linked with Chelsea and Manchester United on the back of his work at Ipswich Town, the newly-promoted team are all set to put in the work to ensure they keep on their bench. They are doing everything they can to convince the 38-year-old to continue at the club as they prepare for their return to the Premier League.
