Antonio Conte offers himself to Chelsea, Fabrizio Romano rubbishes links

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has dismissed rumours of Antonio Conte offering his services to his former club Chelsea.

According to a report from Calciomercato, Italian manager Antonio Conte is looking to return to action, and he is interested in taking over from Mauricio Pochettino at Chelsea. The Argentine manager has not had the best of seasons at the West London club, and his future there is uncertain.

Pochettino took charge of Chelsea last summer, and the new ownership brought in the former Tottenham manager with hopes that he would help revive the club. Unfortunately, things have not gone according to plan, with Chelsea all set to miss out on European football for the second consecutive season.

The Blues’ poor performances in the ongoing campaign have resulted in a lot of uncertainty around Pochettino’s future. The 52-year-old could be shown the exit door after the end of the season and as per reports, the club have started looking for a potential replacement.

While the search continues, the report from Calciomercato states that Conte has offered his services to the West London club, where he won the Premier League and FA Cup between 2016 and 2018.

Things did not really end very well between the two parties. Despite that, the report claims that in the recent past, the former Tottenham manager has made Chelsea know that he is ready for a comeback via an intermediary who boasts excellent relationships with the club.

Fabrizio Romano has debunked links between Conte and Chelsea

But, Fabrizio Romano has dismissed those rumours. The transfer expert believes Conte has not offered his services to any club. The 54-year-old is not in any sort of talks with the West London club. There is nothing true about him offering his services to Chelsea.

Romano said via TBR, “Antonio Conte… guys, I’m receiving many questions about reports from Italy saying that Antonio Conte offered himself to Chelsea.

“Antonio Conte is not offering himself to anyone. He’s not in advanced contacts or concrete contacts with English clubs, but this point about Chelsea is absolutely not true, Conte didn’t offer himself to Chelsea.”

Conte is looking for a new job as he wants to return to the thick of things. However, Chelsea are certainly not in his plans. The Italian manager has been without a job since parting ways with Tottenham Hotspur in March last year. Things did not end well for Conte at Spurs as he was not really given the freedom to build a team of his choice.

He could have all that power at Chelsea, but they are not looking at him as an option. Napoli are a club that has been linked with the 54-year-old of late, and it is a possibility according to Romano. But, the manager will only make a move when he feels it is the right opportunity for him.
