Wolves plan contract talks with Gary O’Neil

Wolves are looking to open contract renewal talks with their manager Gary O’Neil amidst interest from Liverpool and Manchester United.

According to a report by Football Insider, Wolves want to ensure that Gary O’Neil continues at the club for years to come. The 40-year-old has attracted a lot of interest on the back of an impressive debut season and the Wolverhampton-based club are planning urgent contract renewal talks with him.

Wolves were in a very difficult situation when O’Neil took charge of the club last summer. The club had to part ways with quite a few of its star players in order to keep in check with the Premier League’s Profitability and Sustainability Rules. The quick-fire sale also led to the shock departure of Julen Lopetegui.

The English manager has done wonders for the club as they currently sit 11th in the English top flight with 46 points in their 35 matches. Despite the departure of quite a few top stars, the 40-year-old has managed to get the job done.

Wolves to push for urgent renewal talks with O’Neil

His impressive performances haven’t gone unnoticed, it has put him on the radar of Liverpool as well as Manchester United. The Reds are looking for a replacement for Jurgen Klopp and they have been linked with O’Neil. A move to the Merseyside club looks unlikely with Arne Slot expected to take charge but Red Devils are very much interested in him.

The Manchester-based club haven’t made a final decision on the future of Erik ten Hag. But, if they do sack him at the end of the season, they could go hard for the services of the 40-year-old.

Wolves are aware of the amount of interest in their manager and they are looking to ensure they can keep hold of him. As a result, they are planning urgent contract talks with O’Neil. While his current deal with the club runs until the summer of 2026, they are still willing to offer him a new one with improved terms.

People at the Wolverhampton-based are quite impressed with the 40-year-old’s work in his debut season at Molineux and they feel he could do wonders for them in the long run. That is why, they are pushing for a new deal.
