Fabrizio Romano has commented on Liverpool’s links with 52-year-old former Bundesliga-winning manager Niko Kovac.

According to a report by Fabrizio Romano on Give Me Sport, Niko Kovac is not the subject of interest from Liverpool. The Reds have been scouring the market for a manager since Jurgen Klopp announced his impending departure from Anfield. However, the 52-year-old tactician does not feature on their wishlist.

Niko Kovac has endured a rollercoaster ride in his managerial career thus far. A defensive midfielder during his time as a footballer, he represented well-known clubs like Bayern Munich and Bayer Leverkusen before ending his career at Red Bull Salzburg. The former Croatian international entered the coaching sphere in 2012.

The 52-year-old began his managerial career by taking charge of Croatia’s under-21 side before rising to the senior setup. His last four stints have come at the club level, with the manager enjoying decent success at Eintracht Frankfurt and Bayern Munich. Kovac also guided Bayern to the Bundesliga title in the 2018/19 season before departing midway through the 2019/20 campaign.

Since leaving Bayern Munich, Kovac has managed AS Monaco and VfL Wolfsburg, lasting only two years in each job. The Berlin native is currently a free agent after Wolfsburg sacked him a few weeks ago. And recent reports have linked the former Bundesliga-winning tactician with Liverpool.

Liverpool will look to appoint a new manager in the summer, with Jurgen Klopp’s storied spell at Anfield ending in a few weeks. The German tactician made the shocking announcement of his impending departure in January, citing fatigue as the factor in his decision.

Klopp’s impending exit will leave a gaping hole in the first-team setup at the Merseyside club. So, it is hardly surprising that several managers have emerged on Liverpool’s radar over a possible summer move. However, Fabrizio Romano has quashed suggestions that Niko Kovac is one of the candidates.

The Italian journalist has insisted he has not heard about Kovac being on Liverpool’s radar. He has made similar comments about Thiago Motta’s links with the Merseyside outfit. So, it will be interesting to see who replaces Klopp at Anfield in the coming weeks.
