Manchester United are reportedly willing to wait to secure Dan Ashworth’s appointment as their new sporting director.

According to a report by talkSPORT, Manchester United are ready to adopt a strategy of patience in their pursuit of Dan Ashworth. The 53-year-old has agreed to become the Red Devils’ first-ever sporting director. But, Manchester United have not been able to strike a deal with Newcastle United to land him at Old Trafford.

Manchester United are all set to undergo major changes under the leadership of new part-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe and his INEOS. They are looking to make key appointments at the club to ensure they have a system in place to revive the club.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe wants Dan Ashworth at Manchester United

Once the new part owners had full control over Manchester United’s sporting decisions, they started pushing for Dan Ashworth’s signatures. They managed to convince him about the job, and he ended up handing his notice at Newcastle.

While the Magpies have started their search for a new sporting director, they are looking for significant compensation from Manchester United. Newcastle want £20 million to release him early from his lengthy gardening leave. That is a fee that Manchester  United have no intention of paying.

Manchester United to play the waiting game

The Red Devils have been in talks with Newcastle in order to reach a common ground. But, nothing has worked so far. They want Ashworth to take charge of the team in time to lead their summer recruitment plans. However, they won’t meet the Magpies’ demands.

The Red Devils have decided to play the waiting game even if it might end up having an impact on their plans for the summer. They are aware of the fact that eventually, Newcastle United will negotiate a lower fee than £20 million, and they are ready to adopt a strategy of patience.

Meanwhile, this decision works in favour of Erik ten Hag, who is under immense pressure at the club. It has been a disappointing season for the Dutch manager, and they are considering parting ways with him. But, Ashworth would want a major involvement in this big a decision. So, if he does not take charge in time, ten Hag might continue at Old Trafford for next season.
