Manchester City are all set to open contract renewal talks with their 53-year-old manager Pep Guardiola in the near future.

According to a report by HITC, Manchester City are keen on having Pep Guardiola in their ranks for years to come. With his contract running out in the summer of 2025, they are looking to open contract renewal talks with the former Barcelona boss in the summer.

Pep Guardiola’s time at Manchester City

Guardiola arrived at Manchester City in the summer of 2016 after dominating spells at Bayern Munich and Barcelona. He had done wonders at both clubs and was expected to transform the English club into the best club in the world.

The Spanish manager has surely lived up to the expectations. He has helped them win the Premier League five times and has also led them to their maiden Champions League title last year. After winning the treble last season, Manchester City are in contention to make it back-to-back trebles that is the kind of impact he has had at the club.

He has already been handed two contract extensions in the recent past, one in 2020 and the other in 2022. His current deal runs out in just over a year’s time. As a result, Manchester City are looking to extend his stay at the club.

A new contract on the table for Guardiola

While Guardiola never really talks about his future at the club, he did talk about it after Jurgen Klopp’s decision to end his stint at Liverpool. He mentioned the fact that signing a renewal after a year or two is different to signing an extension after a nine-year-long stint. It might have created a few doubts, but he did say that there is enough time left and he will decide when the right time arrives.

Manchester City do not want to rush him into any decisions, and they have decided to hold talks with the Spanish manager in the upcoming summer. While they do not expect him to make a decision until the end of the season, the Citizens have made it clear to him that a new deal is on the table for him.

The last two deals that he signed at Manchester City (2020 & 2022) came in November before his contract was due to expire in the summer. As a result, they are not pushing him, they know he will look at the situation when the time is right.
