Mauricio Pochettino faces fresh scrutiny about his Chelsea future as he must win the FA Cup to secure his position at Stamford Bridge.

According to Football Insider, Mauricio Pochettino may have to beat Manchester City in their FA Cup semifinal and win the competition to save his job. The Argentine continues to be under the spotlight for some below-par Chelsea performances.

Mauricio Pochettino’s job on the brink?

Mauricio Pochettino joined Chelsea in the summer, hoping to bring the best out of an expensively assembled squad. Chelsea owners took the gamble on the Argentine, knowing his history with London rivals, Tottenham. There were some questions about his track record with trophies, having only won titles with PSG and none during his five-year spell at Spurs.

In any case, the quality of the Argentine was not in question. Chelsea had only endured a difficult season under different managers. In Pochettino’s case, he was tasked with a full pre-season and given the tools to build for the season, although things have not gone to plan.

Chelsea is at mid-table as things stand and needs primary intervention in the last phase of the season if they are to achieve something. Pochettino’s job has come under increasing pressure, particularly after the Burnley result at the weekend, where his side could not break down a team with ten men.

Hence, before the season’s last phase, his job has come under scrutiny, with the FA Cup and a potential European place still in their sights. They are close to a Conference League or Europa League spot, but with few games left to spare, Pochettino’s job might depend on that.

Pochettino’s fate depends on Man City’s result

Chelsea might make an early decision on Pochettino’s future should Chelsea not manage to beat Manchester City in their FA Cup semifinal. The competition is essential, and if the Blues manage to win it, the Argentine might see his job secured for another season.

However, a loss against Pep Guardiola’s side will seal the fate of the Argentine manager, with Chelsea likely to part ways with his services in the summer.
