Liverpool have been keen on Bayer Leverkusen manager Xabi Alonso in recent months but have turned their attention to Ruben Amorim.

A report from reputed Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano has claimed that Liverpool are now considering a move for the Sporting CP manager Ruben Amorim as an alternative to Spanish tactician Xabi Alonso.

Alonso has recently confirmed that he will continue in Germany beyond this season. Meanwhile, Amorim has a €15 million release clause in his contract, and he should prove to be a quality appointment at that price. It will be interesting to see if Liverpool are prepared to trigger his release clause.

The Reds need to bring in a quality manager at the end of the season, and Amorim has certainly proven his quality with Sporting CP. The Portuguese tactician has introduced an attractive style of football at the Jose Alvalade Stadium, and he has nurtured talented young players as well.

He could be the ideal fit for Liverpool who have a similar style of play, and a talented young squad. So, it is hardly surprising that they Merseyside club are stepping up their interest in him and have identified him as the top alternative to Xabi Alonso.

Amorim would be worth the investment for Liverpool

The reported €15 million release clause seems reasonable for one of the best young managers in the game, and the 39-year-old should be able to justify the investment. The opportunity to manage one of the biggest clubs in the world can be quite tempting, and the Portuguese manager is likely to be attracted if there is a concrete proposal on the table.

It will be interesting to see if Liverpool can secure an agreement with him in the coming months. Replacing Jurgen Klopp will be a difficult task for the Premier League side, and they will have to be very careful with their next appointment.

The new manager will be under tremendous pressure to replicate Klopp’s heroics at Anfield, and it remains to be seen whether Amorim is ready to take up a massive challenge like that.

Liverpool are currently pushing for the UEFA Europa League and the Premier League titles. It will be interesting to see if they can finish the season strongly and help their charismatic German manager sign off on a high. They have already won the Carabao Cup this season.
