Chelsea could see a change in the chairmanship in 2027, with Todd Boehly expected to step down as part of an extraordinary agreement.

The Daily Mail reports on an agreement among the Chelsea shareholders about Todd Boehly stepping down from his position as the club’s Chairman in 2027. An extraordinary agreement between the American and Clearlake Capital suggests the chairmanship could change hands and that Boehly will have no choice but to step down.

Todd Boehly to step down as Chelsea chairman?

Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital brought Chelsea Football Club in the summer of 2022. They have since tried to change the fortunes of the club with massive spending, which has seen them splash well over a billion pounds in the time they have stayed in charge.

The hierarchy have insisted they believe in a long-term plan for the club and feel there’s a sense of justification in the massive spending. However, in recent times, Chelsea fans have revolted against Boehly, and now it’s revealed that the American could step down from his role as the club’s Chairman in 2027.

There’s a reported agreement between Boehly and Clearlake Capital, led by Behdad Eghbali and Jose E Feliciano. The understanding between the two parties stipulates the change in the Chairman’s position, meaning Boehly may not have a choice but to step down from the role in 2027.

Following that, either Behdad Eghbali or Jose E. Feliciano could assume the role. Alternatively, they could make a third-party appointment to oversee the club and fulfil the role should neither assume to become the new Chairman of the club. Pertaining to the details of the agreement or at least how it’s presented in the report, Boehly is sure to step down from his post-2027.

Will things change after Boehly steps down?

While there have been many fan protests directed towards Boehly and the workings of the club, once the American steps down, things may not change as many might anticipate. This means that Chelsea will follow their business model and the manner in which they have planned the future.

Boehly still only has a minority stake in the club compared to Behdad Eghbali and Jose E. Feliciano, who have the lion’s share of the stake.
