Manchester United are looking to appoint 52-year-old Southampton director of football Jason Wilcox as Sir Jim Ratcliffe continues the rebuild.
According to Ben Jacobs via GiveMeSport, Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS will look to continue their rebuild of Manchester United heading into the summer. They have already made a few key appointments behind the scenes and are looking to make another one in Jason Wilcox.
The 52-year-old is currently the director of football at Southampton. He was a part of the City setup back in the day as their academy manager before taking the role at the Championship club ahead of the ongoing season.
While it hasn’t even been 12 months since he took charge of the Saints, there is already interest in his services from elsewhere because of the work he did during his days at the City academy.
United keen on having Wilcox
Manchester United are keen on having him in their ranks. The Red Devils will look to make major changes to their squad during the summer under the new minority ownership of Ratcliffe.
But, before they had into the summer, United are looking to continue the rebuild behind the scenes. The new part owners who recently completed the purchase of a 25% stake in the club now have full control over their sporting decisions.
They have already made a few key changes at the club and are looking to bring in a few more influential people before heading into the next summer transfer window. The Red Devils appointed former Manchester City chief Omar Berrada as their new CEO.
Ashworth could be joined by Jason Wilcox at United
They also have an agreement in place with Dan Ashworth to join the club in the near future. While the Newcastle United sporting director has already agreed on a move to United and has been placed on gardening leave by the Magpies, the clubs haven’t been able to agree on compensation for the deal.
Ashworth is expected to join the Red Devils eventually and he could be followed by Wilcox who will work alongside the Magpies sporting director. The duo are expected to bring in young prospects and develop them into stars as United look to return to its glory days.
Jacobs believes Wilcox’s departure from the Saints in the summer is a high possibility. The negotiations are not that complicated for United and the talks are progressing quite nicely, as a result, there is a realistic chance of the 52-year-old moving to Old Trafford.
